Day 5: 'Collaborate'

  • What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?

    • Everything seemed to come together today. I enjoyed Listening to Dorothy and Kerry this morning talking about Visible learning [and teaching]. It's all about 'no surprises, knowing what is expected. Learning should be visible to learners! Interesting korero about removing barriers but also knowing what the boundaries [expectations] are. I love the idea reinforcing the concept of embracing the technology to making teaching & learning fun!
  • What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?

    • What Kerry had to share about multi modal was motivating. There were a lot of ideas shared that really    made sense and resonated with me. Especially the ways students like to learn. It's not the same for  everyone and we shouldn't assume that our tamariki learn best the way we 'default' to. Giving them the opportunities to create and share in a way that fits them is something we need to embrace. Hooking students into their learning will undoubtedly be easier if this is done.
    • I feel like I'm starting to become more comfortable in using the different aspects of google to present. I loved today's session on 'Sites.' I wouldn't have a 'class site' but I will definitely develop a 'Sir's Site' for students and whanau to look at!
  • What did I learn that could be used with my learners?

    • Developing a 'principal's site' to sit alongside all the class sites. It would be an area for achievements,
  • What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?

    • Time management. Becoming confident enough to work with the different tools in google would give me more time in other areas

Day 4: 'Dealing With Data'

Another great day with lots of new tricks and traits. I was looking forward to this part of DFI because organising data and showing it in an easily-to-read and understand is something that I've been meaning to get to. Being able to manipulate and configure the way a report looks is probably what I want most out of DFI.

  • What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?

The basics of working with sheets. [I was in the remedial class]. Had a good play with data. I feel pretty                confident that I have the basics sorted to be able to work with data other than what is on our SMS. Using             data to inform teaching, showing student progress over different times and being able to show Board,                    whanau and the student/s will be helpful. It will lead to evidencing student voice.

  • What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?

I enjoyed my first play with forms. Haven't really thought about how I would use it but I'm sure there will                be plenty of opportunities to do so. I am slowly building in confidence with the similarities of functions                    throughout the google suite

  • What did I learn that could be used with my learners?

Google maps, forms, sheets, they could all be utilised by the learners in their own 'create' space. Giving                students more opportunities to create a graph, a quiz, using maps to display maths, geography, history,                etc. Our learners should be given ample opportunities to create and present their learning in various                     formats!

  • What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?

Working from home is not a barrier. With a possibility of COVID hitting us again, we have the tools and                 capabilities to carry on as 'normally' as possible. Our staff and students are in a space where they can                 carry on with their learning as well as staying connected minimising the health & well-being of our                         tamariki

DFI Media

Had a great day i tenei ra!

I was fortunate to have explored more about Hapara yesterday with Maria so we reflected on some of the many functions that Hapara offers. As leader of the school, it's like a one stop shop to scope the students learning so this is going to be helpful in terms of navigating the students learning in one place.

Our session on Create [Hanga], especially the film archives, 'The Heart of the Matter,' was inspirational when you think about Create as making a difference to students learning, how create is motivational to student learning! It is something I want to revisit and explore more in our own school curriculum!

Had a cool hangout with Dorothy looking at creating master slides. Had a couple of templates that I have started.

Without realising it, I had already created a YouTube channel! I managed to create a couple of playlists. Thanks Maria for showing me how to embed this video which is part of the original playlist I created when I created my channel a couple of years back!!!
