Elijahs Blog

What was the teaching design behind this post?
This is probably a post where students were asked to share something exciting that has happened whilst in lockdown. They needed to present this in the form of a video using unspoken clues / inferencing. It was definitely a fun post which included the whole family
What was the learner’s response ie the post content?
The student and the whole family were included so there was some home / school learning done together. It was obvious emotion so the exercise was motivational with the use of cupcakes that the adults possibly had some involvement in as there was obvious element of surprise.
Who responded to the post and how did this support the learning experience or contribute more to the learning of the child?
There were only 2 reactions via the blog which was disappointing I'm sure for the child but I guess they were happy anyway

Digital Fluency Intensive

Day 2: Workflow
Today we looked at 'Workflow.'

What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani Great Kaupapa and pedagogy?
The kaupapa focuses on two key components; increasing teacher effectiveness and accelerating learning outcomes for our students. DFI is one of the key support initiatives to provide teachers, TA's and our admin staff to have the knowledge and support to work and support students in a digital environment. The pedagogy is Learn, Create , Share. [Ako, Hanga, Tohatoha]. One aspect of this is that I will go to mt senior team and the teachers to look at what does LEARN look like in our kura!
What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?
WI have found the morning sessions so useful and I recognise and acknowledge that I need to move into the google platform. I recognise that there is so much smooth interaction and transfer of information from different spaces and the ability to share information much more easily. It's the first time I have had a real look at the different components and functions of Hapara so it was useful to see that it has many uses.
What did I learn that could be used with my learners?
For me, there are many things I've taken out of today's session. As the leader, navigating the Hapara space to keep in tune with the students mahi. Maria and I have organised a Meet next week to get a better understanding of its applications.
What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?
Looking at the 'gmail' and 'calendar' deliveries this morning as well as a quick browse through the Hapara site, I can see these all as useful tools. I will definitely be exploring these more and implement them into what I currently use [outlook, word table for calendar]. Overall, today's session has helped me see a clear and wider view of what is available both on a personal and a professional level. 'Google Keep' is something that is completely new to me. I hadn't heard of it. I shall be exploring this over the next week.

Day 1:
Today we had the first of 9 days working in the Cohort 3 of 2020 in DFI. Very intensive indeed!

1. What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa & pedagogy?
As the principal I have heard the Manaiakalani message many times. As a school, we are fully committed to embracing this kaupapa. We are 3 years into the Manaiakalani journey. The recent disruption to school because of Covid 19 reinforced to us just how important this has become. Learning was minimised because of our participation. We also saw benefits in terms of increased whanau support and engagement.
2. What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?
I found that I needed to ensure all the systems were in place before the day. I thought that I had the 'new' version of Meet but there was a newer one. so the first session was a bit difficult. I could not see the presentation. I found the flow of the day and the content was very useful and how everything fits into place. I realise there is a lot of mahi needed to up-skill and become confident in the various spaces!
3. What did I learn that could be used with my learners?
I know that all of our learners are already using blogs to share their learning. Capturing their work and sharing this, following up by posting helpful comments as a way of motivating them to improve is important.
I know not to rely on them to help me in my learning journey in this space.
4. What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?
Time, time and more time! Like anything, the more I engage and participate in this space, the more confident and capable I will be! Looking forward to it!
